Kidney Stones From Infection. A risk with kidney stones is a kidney infection which can lead to sepsis. Infected kidney stones refer to stones that form because of urinary tract infections with urease producing bacteria secondarily infected stones of any composition or stones obstructing the urinary tract leading to pyelonephritis.
When a kidney stone blocks the tubes that drain urine from the kidneys to the bladder called the ureters urine collects in the kidneys causing a kidney infection. The urine is held in the urinary bladder until it is emptied when the urine passes through the urethra and out the urethral opening.
