Right Kidney Vertebral Level. The left kidney sits below the diaphragm and posterior to the spleen. The kidneys lie retroperitoneally behind the peritoneum in the abdomen either side of the vertebral column.
The left kidney is approximately at the vertebral level t12 to l3 and the right is slightly lower. I ll get rid of that and we can see what else is in front of the kidney and the gallbladder. On top of each kidney is an adrenal gland.
The left renal artery is much shorter and arises slightly more superior to the right main renal artery.
The right kidney was lower than the left in approximately two thirds of the cases the two kidneys were at the same level in one third and the left kidney was lower than the right in 6 per cent. The lower border of the kidneys is usually alongside l3. Anteriorly the right kidney is related to the liver duodenum ascending colon or right colic flexure and small intestine.
